Remove the side panel. If needed, you can find instructions that specifically match your computer by searching HP Customer Care at the top of this page using the model number of your computer and the term "opening the case". Look inside the computer. Check to see if this connection is secure. If the wires are not connected or are partially connected, secure the wires to the proper USB connection on the motherboard. Also, you can refer to the motherboard specification that matches your specific model of computer. Figure : An example of front USB wires connecting to the motherboard. Plug in the power cable and the mouse and keyboard if they were previously disconnected.

You can use the front ports after Windows has installed drivers for the USB ports. This can occur when the computer has speakers connected to the audio-out port, and the new USB audio device is connected after clicking Stop in Windows Media Player 11, and before you click Play.

For example, you would hear audio only from the originally attached speakers, not from the newly connected headphones. To resolve this problem, close Windows Media Player 11, and then open it again. This forces the player to recognize the new audio device. You hear no audio playback after you unplug a USB audio device When a USB audio device is unplugged, such as headphones or a microphone, no audio playback from the speakers is heard.

This might occur because Windows 7 did not detect that the USB audio device was removed and is still trying to send audio to the unplugged device. To resolve this problem, close the media player, and then open it, or restart the computer after you unplug a USB audio device. This forces Windows to rebuild its playback graph and recognize that the removed device is unplugged. This setting may not be available on your computer model. If the first two methods did not work for you, you can disable the Selective Suspend feature. Therefore, your computer cannot suspend any USB devices that are connected to it, and the USB devices can continue to use power while connected to the computer.

Additionally, the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box does not appear on the Power Management tab for the USB root hub. However, sometimes this feature may not correctly wake up the USB device. Therefore, the USB device is unresponsive when you try to use it. You might want to disable this feature for server products where power management is not important or required. Strange thing is, I tested the 'broken' cable on an external hard drive and it worked perfectly Who knows.

Glad it's fixed. It is annoying when it happens 'cause you don't really consider it. And let's remember they're such low voltages etc that the slightest separation stuffs things.

We have a name for such a small distance in Aus, but I'd better not post that! Then the damn cable works when you put it somewhere else due to a different angle blah blah. Into the recycle bin immediately!! We've all been there, done that, have the t-shirt!! When I go to the communication settings and the USB tab, I click 'install driver' and get an error 'invalid procedure call or argument'.

I can still open the device manager and find the COM port I need however. I tried to completely remove and reinstall Visilogic as was suggested in a post for a similar problem, but this didn't seem to make much difference.

If someone could help me out in understanding what I'm doing wrong I would greatly appreciate it! Cam is correct, but to clarify you have to run both the installer and once that is done, then the program , found within the Main folder, as admin by doing right click, properties, compatibility, tick run as admin..
