I have tried "partionning" the external HD, but when it came to "Scan disc image" of Leopard, I had the message: Unable to scan "Install" Resource busy. I have tried to install with original Leopard DVD, but after pushing restart to chose my external HD , then my computer keeps asking me to push restart.
Connect your WD Firewire drive. If not, you will need to repartition and reformat the drive - note that this will erase everything that is on the drive.
Do not remove the Leopard install DVD from the drive. Shut down your Mac. Then restart it by holding down the "C" key while it starts. You should then be able to select your external WD drive and install Leopard there.
